Presentation: Opening Protective Options in Fire & Smoke Walls

Presenter: Salvador Perez, Door Systems (DSI)

Learning objectives:

1) Discuss fire and life safety concerns associated with open-concept designs.
2) Distinguish between overhead coiling smoke curtains and fire curtains, including their ratings and test standards such as UL 10D and UL 10B, along with key updates to Chapters 7 and 30 of the IBC.
3) Describe the code language in Chapter 10 for horizontal-sliding door technology as a design solution in a means of egress application.
4) Identify IBC provisions for openings in fire barriers in Section 707.6, the 25% rule, and when opening protectives must be tested per ASTM E119 or UL 263.
