Join us for a Happy Hour and Presentation on October 16, 2025! This event is sponsored by Johnson Controls and is free for NCN-SFPE members. 

Presentation:

Introduction and overview of NFPA 4, Standard for Integrated Fire Protection and Life Safety System Testing. This presentation outlines the guidelines and procedures for testing and verifying the proper functioning of integrated fire protection and life safety systems.

· Cursory review of NFPA 3, Standard for Commissioning of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems.

· Understanding the fundamental objectives of NFPA 4, Standard for Integrated Fire Protection and Life Safety System Testing

· Roles and Responsibilities: Understanding the various roles and responsibilities involved with an NFPA 4 test, including owners, integrated testing agent, test team, contractors, and authority having jurisdiction.

· Testing Procedures: Planning and preparing an integrated test plan, test scenarios, and frequencies.

· Documentation: Review test issues log, corrective action report, input/output matrix, & example test report.

· Discuss challenges and obstacles.

Speaker BIO:

Brad Kappeler is the Business Development Manager for Global Fire Detection Products at Johnson Controls.  With more than 30 years of experience in fire protection and life safety, he has developed expertise across a wide range of technologies, including networked voice fire alarm and mass notification systems, advanced detection solutions, and engineered special-hazard suppression systems.  Brad resides in Chicago, IL with his wife and four children.
