Code Changes in 2022 Codes (SFM Presentation)

Presentation Outline

2022 CBC and CFC key changes:

  • Give an Overview of the California Rulemaking process and how to identify  changes in the publication
  • Identify key changes in the 2022 CBC and CFC (State amendments)

            -  Provide insight from pre-rulemaking workgroups

  • Address changes in the Model Code (2021 IBC and IFC)
  • Report on sections that have been reorganized


Crystal Sujeski

In developing regulation proposals, Crystal Sujeski has been actively involved in the initiation, preparation, and analysis of code changes international, national, and state levels since 2008. She started her career in Burlingame, California as a Fire Fighter cadet for Central County Fire. She currently is the Acting Supervisor for the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Code Development Division.

Crystal Sujeski has been a participant on several working groups including the International Code Council’s (ICC) Fire Code Action Committee (FCAC), Building Code Action Committee (BCAC); the Sustainable Energy Action Committee (SEAC), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee and a Co-Chair to the California Fire Chief’s Association NorCal Fire Prevention Officers Section. Crystal Sujeski has served as a representative on the California Building Standards Commission Code Coordinating Council and the California Building Standards Code Advisory Committee as an ex-officio. She is a member of the California Building Officials (Calbo) Building and Fire Advisory Committee. Her position at the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Code Development Division has offered her the opportunity to be involved in several working task groups including:

•    Wildland Urban Interface Chapter 7A and Chapter 49
•    I-3 occupancy
•    L occupancy
•    Energy Storage Systems
•    A2L refrigerants
•    Tents
•    Child Care and I-4 occupancy with Social Services
•    R-2.2 occupancy with CDCR
•    I-2 occupancies with HCAI (formally OSHPD)
•    Mobile Fuel Trucks with HCD
