Technical Services Engineer – to maintain and enhance the company’s position as a leader in the mineral fiber products marketplace by providing technical engineering services. Works in cooperation with Sales and Marketing to enhance the awareness of company products and services to increase market position. Assists the efforts of field sales personnel, as needed, for technical assistance with architects, building owners, general contractors, fire marshals, city and code officials to increase customer understanding of Thermafiber products. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.Develop strong working relationships with architects, building officials, fire marshals and other construction related entities,to understand the current needs for fire and smoke containment, thermal and sound control using Thermafiber products.

2.Understand the commercial construction techniques and practices to skillfully apply and expand the use of Thermafiber products.

3.Develop a basic understanding of the building codes and test standards that apply to commercial and industrial construction. Work with code officials and fire marshals to develop local code changes for compliance with technical and administrative codes, ordinances, and regulations to improve life safety through passive systems.

4.Develop and implement methods to ensure Thermafiber products are specified and installed to recognized specification standards.

5.Capable of reviewing architectural drawings for commercial construction and knowledgeable of AutoCAD and 3 dimensional detailing and drafting which can be applied to Thermafiber designs for gaining strength in the commercial construction industry.

6.Implement and provide training programs mainly centered on the architectural and specification communities for Thermafiber products. Programs consist of passive systems and the reasons such systems are necessary, and the advantages of sound control using Thermafiber products, and benefits of its thermal properties. May assist in the training of field sales and customer service personnel, relating to existing or new products and changes.

7.Assist in special assignments related to conducting of research and testing of system designs and development of user friendly concepts, special applications, and propose new ideas to resolve customer needs or installation issues. Serves as a liaison to testing or regulatory agencies for both new and existing products. Includes coordination of compliance testing such as thermal conductivity, density, shot content, high temperature performance, etc.

8.Prepare detailed drawings of architectural and structural features of buildings or component drawings, using knowledge of building materials, engineering practices, and mathematics. Must stay abreast of changes related to codes, standards, Underwriters Laboratories designs and other regulatory compliance.

9. Assist in trade shows and presentations with marketing and sales personnel, building trade organizations, code associations, and individual corporations.

10.Possess a working knowledge of green building principles and LEED features that provide building sustainability, while maintaining a positive environment. Incumbent will continue to develop a working knowledge of USGBC’s LEED green building rating system.

11.Any other assignment, as directed by the Director of Technical Services.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, architecture, fire protection engineer or an equivalent technical field with a background in construction or related industry.

Experience: 5-7 years in architectural or technical services or experience related to the building materials industry.

SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIRED

Willingness and ability to travel 50% or more of the time.
Develop and conduct professional presentations and workshops
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Familiarity with building design, commercial construction, contractor installation, and/or insulation products
Proficient in Microsoft software computer products and AutoCAD.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Long-term development should include involvement in groups such as: ASTM, UL, USCG, NAIMA, national code bodies, health and safety interests, etc that impact the application and sales of the company’s products.

This is a growth position in anticipation of a pending retirement.

This firm was private two years ago and was doing about 700M in annual projects. Their turnkey approach drew the attention of a conglomerate with heavy governmental ties that ended up purchasing them. Since the acquisition they have more than doubled their book of business and their rapid growth has taken them into the international market. With the amount of expansion they are experiencing, Fire Protection has stepped outside of the Mechanical realm and has become its own department and they are in search of a Lead.

My client is engaged in traditional design-bid-build and design-build projects. They expect this individual to manage junior staff, budget, and to be accustom to client interaction. Basic job functions would include: hydraulic calculations, fire suppression system design, fire detection and alarm system design, hazard abatement, and life safety code analysis. Document preparation for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects for private and government clients would also be required.

Experience with consulting AE firm is preferred.

It is my personal opinion that this department is extremely underdeveloped, based on the amount of warm market they now have with the merger. For a candidate that is looking for a solid company with stability, challenge, advancement, great compensation and good people, I doubt if there is a better opportunity out there. With the state of the economy what it is and my client growing in leaps and bounds it is incredible to think what they will be capable of when the market rebounds.

I have been told by my client that the compensation for the position will depend on the applicant but that any qualified candidate will be well paid. I have seen them follow through on this on several occasions with other positions I have filled.

Maintain Project Status Report for the TMCx Life Safety Nevada Office, including adding and deleting projects, weekly update on staff project hours, and update total estimated project hours to stay within budget and commissioning plan.
Assist in monthly invoicing as required by the Life Safety Manager to ensure accurate customer billing.
Documentation & Quality Control
Oversee and provide quality control for all commissioning documentation and reports.
Integrate multiple project schedules into a SBU-wide man-power resource schedule.
Provide design review of project plans, specifications and submittals.
As appropriate, directly interface with the Customer and/or the construction trade personnel.
Handle issues and discrepancies.
Assist to maintain the structure of project files in the office and on the Engineering Server.
Keep records of projects up to date and accurate and ensure that all SBU engineers and specialists are keeping copies of all documents on the server.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: The following qualifications/experiences are required.

Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years experience.
A Nevada PE or capable of reciprocity a plus.
