Life Safety Engineering Manager

PURPOSE:
TMCx Life Safety, LLC is a Professional Engineering Firm, specializing in Special Inspection Services for Mechanical Smoke Control Systems in accordance with the International Building Code. In addition, TMCx Life Safety provides submittal review and inspections of fire alarm, automatic sprinkler systems and other life safety systems to the Authorities Having Jurisdiction and life safety construction management services to construction industry. The role of the TMCx Life Safety Engineering Manager is to plan, direct, schedule, and coordinate all Life Safety project activities to ensure that project goals are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters, and that all reports are accurate.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The principal responsibilities and tasks include:
Supervisory & Management:
Provide technical expertise, train and mentor recent and new fire Protection Engineering Graduates.
Assign projects and manage labor resource planning and adjust as required to meet Clients needs and sister Strategic Business Unit needs.
Review all Reports and documentation prepared by TMCx Life Safety staff.
Ensure quality standards are met.
Conduct and manage Life Safety team meetings to facilitate the successful completion of the objectives.
Provide independent professional advice to team members.
Provide consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.
Manage the TMCx Life Safety Staff to set annual goals with each employee and review performance annually against goals.
Assist in preparing TMCx Life Safety monthly, quarterly and annual manpower, revenue and expenses planning process. Develop key indicators that can be reviewed with the Executive Management.
PROJECT COSTS:
Monitor labor expenditures within limitations of project budget.
Identify project labor resource needs; communicate and coordinate labor resource deficiencies and excesses with other Commissioning Project Managers to ensure optimal labor efficiency within the office.
Maintain Project Status Report for the TMCx Life Safety Nevada Office, including adding and deleting projects, weekly update on staff project hours, and update total estimated project hours to stay within budget and commissioning plan.
Assist in monthly invoicing as required by the Life Safety Manager to ensure accurate customer billing.
Documentation & Quality Control
Oversee and provide quality control for all commissioning documentation and reports.
Integrate multiple project schedules into a SBU-wide man-power resource schedule.
Provide design review of project plans, specifications and submittals.
As appropriate, directly interface with the Customer and/or the construction trade personnel.
Handle issues and discrepancies.
Assist to maintain the structure of project files in the office and on the Engineering Server.
Keep records of projects up to date and accurate and ensure that all SBU engineers and specialists are keeping copies of all documents on the server.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: The following qualifications/experiences are required.
Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years experience.
A Nevada PE or capable of reciprocity a plus.
Ability to prepare technical reports and proposal.
A strategic thinker with the ability to move and act at the operational and tactical levels when required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Outstanding organizational capabilities.
Construction management experience preferred.
Proven success utilizing thorough knowledge of project management processes, methods and direct application.
The ability to lead through influence rather than dictation, with a customer centric focus on people.
A strategic thinker with the ability to move and act at the operational and tactical levels when required.
Ability to read and relate to various communication styles of diverse team members.
Ability to multi-task and work on more than one project at a time.
Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands, & timelines through analytical problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to lead, mentor, and train personnel within a fast-paced, flexible team environment.
Able to detect conflict at an early stage, confront, and resolve team and project issues.
Ability to travel.
POSITION TYPE:
This is an exempt position, with an expectation of a minimum of 40 hours per week. This position reports directly to the Vice President of TMCx Life Safety. and is an active, integral team member with the other TMCx Business Units.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/DYNAMICS:
Both office and on site in new and existing construction. Must be able to physically move about all phases of a building site without assistance.
